For the second year the Laying Up Supper was held in the Memorial Hall in Letchmore Heath, to general acclaim from the 70+members and families present. The hall had a nautical theme, with a false ceiling of sails from most of the racing classes at ASC, the flower-bedecked tables adding to the welcoming atmosphere. But nothing prepared us for the entertainment which preceded the serious business of prize-giving. Barry Steel, artist, teacher and RS300 sailor extraordinaire, demonstrated a little-known skill, dancing a Blues Brothers routine up on stage after a humorous introduction from Sailing Secretary David Reed. What a double act!
A more informal affair than hitherto, it was attended by all ages and I believe enjoyed by all. Thanks go to all concerned in planning and running the event, but particularly Social Secretary Rebecca Lonsdale who masterminded this year’s festivities.
