 The Cruising Fleet is for those members who enjoy a quiet, non competitive sail, in company with others. Those who sail with the Fleet bring a variety of boats to the weekend sailing sessions. Currently there are, at the last count, eight Mirrors, a Cormorant, a Miracle, a Comet Versa,an RS Vision,a Laser2, a Gull Spirit,an Enterprise, a GP14,a Pico, a Wayfarer, and the Fleet Captain's Windmill. There are also a number of members who sail with the Fleet in addition to taking part in the Sunday morning racing. The Cruising Fleet provides them with an opportunity to practice sailing skills and improve techniques without being put under pressure. And so the occasional Laser can be seen on the water on Sunday afternoons, and even the odd RS300. One member hedges his sailing options by bringing a Mirror, an Enterprise, and an RS300 to the lake, and can be seen, after the morning racing, demonstrating his very personal skill of changing tack in an RS300 whilst turning a double somersault on the hog.
There is no formal membership of the Fleet. Any Sailing Members of the Club can come along as and when the mood takes them. Sunday afternoons has been designated as Club Time, and weather and other considerations being equal this is generally the Fleets preferred time for a weekly sail. The Fleet Captain, John Toseland sends out an Email each week ,in advance of the weekend, giving news of the previous weeks activities, and suggesting a meeting up time for the weekend ahead. If Saturday is offering weather and sailing conditions vastly superior to Sunday,or if there is an Open Meeting on the Sunday, involving afternoon racing, then Saturday is swopped for Sunday. These Emails contain the odd sailing anecdote. These are for entertainment purposes, and written under the motto,' Never let the truth spoil a good story'. Members are invited to reply, clicking on 'Reply All', so that replies go to all in the Fleet. This has proved a useful way of keeping Cruising Group sailors in touch with each other.
