A course for Adults and Teenagers to introduce the basics of sailing. The course follows the RYA National Sailing Scheme and aims to cover levels 1 and 2 and will be run over four Saturdays.
The overall course is aimed at Adults and Teenagers who have had a little or no experience of Dinghy Sailing and takes them to standard where by they should be able to take out a dinghy, and sail in most directions in good weather conditions. The course is also good for those who have had informal teaching or need a refresher as we find we spend more time on the level 2 aspects rather than level 1.
We will have an option to complete the course in both Crewed boats(Wayfarers) and Singlehanders (Picos).
Dates
This course will take place over four Saturdays and will run in April/May/June. Please see our course bookings page for exact dates and times.
Times: 09.30 to 16:00 including a short break for lunch.

During this Sunday afternoon course this group will be focused on achieving the standards for RYA Start Racing Certificate. The course will take place in the clubs new fleet of Picos and in club Wayfarers, which should be lots of fun, but places are limited. Sessions can also be run in students own boats.

A course for children to introduce the basics of sailing. This course is aimed at existing ASC club members. The course follows the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme stages 1, 2 and 3.
We teach children sailing in small individual dinghies called Oppies. The course will be run on four Saturday or Sunday afternoons in April/May/June (please see Course Bookings page for details) and then follow on with a number of practice sessions during the summer on Sunday afternoons (this will be arranged at the time). During the sessions we will work through the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme which builds from the complete beginner through to basic sailing skills.
We find that 7yr olds and under may struggle with this course.
Please Note: Parents are expected to stay on site to help their children with boat rigging/stowing/safety ashore. The second part of the course, the practice sessions will be not be an RYA course but will be self organised by the parents on the course (this will be arranged at the time). We also ask all parents to be particularly aware of the the Safety information published on this website as some parts are particularly inportant for children.
Dates, Please see our course bookings page
Times: 13:00 to 16:00, on Saturdays/Sundays (Parents are expected to stay on site to help their children, particularly with getting boats out and putting them away)

Course outline
The course will follow the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme and progressively take participants through the three stages. It should be assumed that a student will complete 1 stage per series. - Sailing into and away from the Wind
- Sailing Solo, stopping & starting
- Sailing a course, capsizes, man overboard.
